Grants Pass

Grants Pass

Grants Pass, located about 30 miles northwest of Medford along Interstate 5, is a smaller and more laid-back community with a population of just under 40,000. Its identity is strongly tied to the Rogue River, which flows directly through the city and provides a base for tourism and recreation. Jet-boat excursions, fishing, rafting, and river festivals are major parts of local culture. Grants Pass promotes itself with the long-standing slogan “It’s the climate!”—a nod to its sunny, Mediterranean-like weather with warm summers and cool, wet winters. The city’s historic downtown is a highlight, filled with boutique shops, cafes, antique stores, and vibrant murals that reflect its artistic side. Compared to Ashland or Medford, housing and cost of living are more affordable, attracting retirees and families seeking a slower pace of life. While tourism and small businesses fuel much of the economy, it also has a strong agricultural and craft-based presence. Grants Pass offers proximity to the Siskiyou Mountains, Oregon Caves National Monument, and scenic byways, making it a prime base for outdoor enthusiasts.
